Year 7 Find Their Voice

This week our Year 7 students took part in an exciting new initiative, the Talk About Transition day, delivered by the communication experts from Talk The Talk.
The workshop marks the beginning of an inspiring journey for our youngest students, helping them to find their voice as they settle into secondary school life. Through a series of lively activities and group discussions, the sessions were designed to build confidence, resilience, and strong communication skills — vital tools for success both inside and outside the classroom.
Transitioning from primary to secondary school is a big step. With new teachers, new routines, and new friendships to form, it can be both thrilling and daunting. Talk About Transition gave students the chance to express their thoughts and feelings about this change, while developing the self-assurance to tackle challenges and embrace opportunities along the way.
The assembly led by Miss Torlop, and the workshops, encouraged students to explore how positive communication can support teamwork, boost self-esteem, and strengthen relationships — skills that will continue to benefit them throughout their education and into adult life.
Head of Year, 7 Mr King said, "We were delighted to welcome Talk the Talk in to deliver workshops to our Year 7 students to help them to develop their communication skills and become more confident speaking in front of their peers. Communication is such an important part of everyone's life, and these skills will go a long way to help our students prepare for each step they will take in the future, both within school and as they progress further with their education and into their careers.
It has been wonderful visiting the tutor groups, seeing the students speak in front of their peers, and presenting, whether this be about a fellow student in their tutor group or having to think on the spot and talk about a given topic. The enthusiasm on display has been amazing and I am sure the students will have learnt a lot from the work that they have undertaken today. A huge thank you to all of the presenters who came in and delivered such engaging and highly informative sessions for the students."
Talk The Talk has worked with over 115,000 students across England and Wales since 2013, inspiring young people to become confident, articulate communicators. Their mission perfectly complements Charters School’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who can engage, collaborate and lead with confidence.
