UCAS Application Day 2025

At Charters School, all Year 12 students take their first steps towards life after Sixth Form by engaging in the UCAS application process. While they’re also encouraged to explore apprenticeships and career opportunities, developing the skills to craft a strong, well-structured university application ensures every pathway remains open.
Below, three students have written an overview of the UCAS Application Day:
"The UCAS Application Day was extremely helpful as it gave us dedicated time to focus on our personal statements and begin the application process without distractions. Having teachers and advisors available with real world experience in the UCAS application process for guidance meant we could ask questions and receive immediate support, which made everything feel less overwhelming and gave us a more uplifting feeling when tackling the stressful nature of thinking about our future decisions. Overall, it was a productive and reassuring experience that helped us feel more confident about applying to university."
"The Potential High Achievers sessions were extremely helpful because it gave us tailored advice on how to strengthen our applications for specific fields like Medicine, Dentistry, and Oxbridge. It helped us understand what top universities are looking for and how to demonstrate those qualities in our personal statements. Overall, it gave us a clearer sense of direction and boosted our confidence in applying to competitive courses."
"Very kindly Oxbridge mentor Jim Colley visited us and gave us some amazing tips and advice about how to write a successful personal statement. There was a lot of information to digest however he explained it perfectly and very clearly. For example, he wants us to really think about why we want to study the courses we are applying for and really try and dig deep into our passions and interests in our selected courses. Also, he spoke about the skills you obtain through our subject we currently take and how it will prepare us for our selected course. What also he made clear was the extra activities you should do outside of sixth form like attending lectures and work experience as that shows you are willing to go out your comfort zone and get more experience and information to enhance your learning. This then really helped us start the process of our personal statements as we had some key pointers in how to write a successful application and we are all incredibly grateful for his time and knowledge. His use of exemplars also created a picture of what the statement should look like and overall, it was a successful morning."
The reflections from our students highlight just how valuable the UCAS Application Day was in helping them clarify their goals and build confidence in the process. Whether aiming for university, an apprenticeship, or entering the world of work, the experience equips every student with the tools to make informed and ambitious choices for their future.
