World Book Day saw staff dressing up to inspire reading amongst our students who have been encouraged to consider the links between reading and character development as part of the celebrations.  Book recommendations that highlight character development have been displayed in the Library along with World Book Day Books from previous years to engage students.

There were several famous characters walking around site including Little Red Riding Hood, The Mad Hatter, The Queen of Hearts and Forest Gump to name but a few.

A World Book Day Picture Quiz scrolling on screen in the Library throughout the week, encouraged students to submit entries of the book titles and authors they could identify from the picture clues.  On WBD a  treasure hunt ensued with students searching for the costumes and character pillars that staff represented.

Miss Torlop chose winners from the Staff Dress Up competition, with individual winner being Miss Turner as Girl with Dragon Tattoo.  Special mentions were given for Miss Boxall's DangerMouse, Mr McNamara's Robin Hood, Mr Herbert's Mad Hatter and Mrs Petinato's Cheshire Cat.

The winning Team costume was Science's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' with special mentions for MFL as 'Les Miserables' and Geography as 'Lessons in Chemistry'.

World Book Day highlights the benefits of reading but this is just once a year.  For our students, reading is an integral part of their learning and is celebrated each day though our DEAR programme, where students Drop Everything And Read during a different period each week, no matter which subject they are in.  This week's DEAR is during period 1 every day and they get to enjoy the wonderful world of literature.

It was fantastic to see the whole school getting involved with all the initiatives that promote the importance and power of reading.

To everyone: open a book and enjoy!
