EXAM RESULTS

Food Technology students at Charters School will be supported by a curriculum that is accessible to all and designed to offer a wide range of opportunities to develop practical and creative skills in food preparation and nutrition. The Food Technology curriculum draws on knowledge from other STEM subjects and focuses on hands-on learning, where students learn best by ‘doing’.

We believe in providing a safe and supportive environment where students can experiment with ingredients, explore recipes, and take creative risks. Our main priority is for students to become confident problem solvers who are not afraid to make mistakes and learn from them. The subject embeds high-quality literacy skills through analysis, evaluation, and reflective practices. Through Food Technology, students contribute to their own creativity, health, and wellbeing, building essential life skills that extend beyond the classroom.

This means:

  • They will develop their knowledge, understand and apply the principles of nutrition and health
  • They will cook predominantly savoury dishes so that they are able to feed themselves and others a healthy and varied diet
  • They will become competent in a range of cooking techniques in order to prepare food in a safe and hygienic way
  • They will be able to select and prepare ingredients, use utensils and electrical equipment, apply heat in different ways, show an awareness of taste, texture and smell to decide how to season dishes and combine ingredients, using and adapting their own recipes
  • They will understand the source, seasonality and characteristics of a broad range of ingredients.
