NEWSLETTER - 12th JUNE 2026

News round up (4)

The weather this week may not have delivered the glorious June sunshine we had hoped for, and unfortunately this has meant that our Year 9 Leadership Day has had to be postponed. While disappointing, we look forward to rescheduling what is always a highly valuable experience. The day provides students with opportunities to build confidence, develop their teamwork skills and practise communicating effectively and concisely in a range of situations.

Meanwhile, our Year 10 students have been enjoying the annual homestay trip to Salamanca, Spain. Not only have they been immersing themselves in Spanish culture and developing their language skills, but they have also managed to escape the less-than-summery weather here at home! Both of these experiences are excellent examples of how our extensive personal development programme supports students in broadening their horizons, building confidence and developing skills that will benefit them well beyond the classroom.

This week, Year 10 Religious Education students welcomed a guest speaker who explored aspects of the GCSE curriculum, encouraging students to consider some of life's biggest questions, including why suffering exists if there is a God. The students engaged thoughtfully with the discussion and enjoyed the opportunity to take part in lively and challenging conversations. Our thanks go to Mrs Grant-Miller for organising this enriching experience.

Last Friday, we were delighted to welcome a number of former students back to school to speak with our Year 12 students. Sharing their experiences since leaving Charters, they offered valuable insights into the different pathways available after sixth form and encouraged students to keep an open mind when considering their future options. It is always wonderful to see our alumni giving back to the school community and helping current students develop a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

This weekend, a group of Year 8 students will be travelling to Belgium to take part in the First World War Battlefields Tour. This promises to be a memorable and thought-provoking experience, bringing history to life and providing students with a powerful opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by previous generations.  Having been on similar tours myself it is sobering to visit the Commonwealth War graves to realise how many people from different ethnic backgrounds came together to stand up for what was right and stop tyranny, not only in the First World War but also since.  Individuals standing up for the values that bind our communities together.

As we move to the start of the World Cup I would like to highlight the need to be in school on time after the games, by the nature of the time zones, many games will not finish until late in the evening or even early morning.  Students need to be alert in school and not tired because they have watched a game the night before.   Whatever team you support I wish them the very best of luck, unless, of course, they are playing England.

A huge well done to all our Stars this week...

7

Cora & Ben

Cora has made and organised a World Cup sweepstakes (no money) and spent hours printing and cutting up countries. In tutor time, Ben helped Cora by writing out all the tutor groups names and recording which countries each picked from Cora. Ben was super excited for everyone who picked a strong side, congratulating them even if they weren’t in his immediate friendship group. The kind and thoughtful act by Cora brought people together talking and being excited who perhaps hadn’t spoken before - further uniting the tutor group.

HOUSE WORLD CUP SWEEPSTAKE

Untitled design (7)

The House World Cup Sweepstake is now underway, with every tutor group taking part and representing a country throughout the tournament.  Tutor groups all picked their country this week (click HERE to see list) and are now in the draw for the Sweepstake. The first House Competition challenge for tutor groups is to design an A3 poster promoting their assigned country, which will be displayed on tutor boards.

Teams will earn points from every match they play: 5 points for a win, 3 points for a score draw, and 2 points for a goalless draw. As countries progress through the tournament, they will continue to collect points and climb the leaderboard. At the end of the World Cup, all points from each house’s teams will be combined to determine the winning house, with the result contributing to the overall House Competition scores for the academic year.

Weekly leaderboard updates will be shared so tutor groups can track their country's progress and celebrate their success during tutor time.

Good Luck!

Go Bulldogs, Eagles and Panthers!
