News round up (4)

It was lovely to see, as always, on a Thursday after school the high participation rate in the girls' netball club. Not only seeing the high numbers of students taking part, but also the Sixth Form students helping to run the drills and umpire the practice matches. The younger students are not only learning netball skills from the Sixth Formers but also seeing how leadership and giving back to the community is an integral part of school life.

Year 11 students have been completing their GCSE Pre-Public Exams (PPEs) this week in their non-core subjects. These help the students understand what they know and, more importantly, what they don’t know or understand to help them with their work and revision over the coming months. Additionally, it also helps them understand the pressures and the inevitable worry they have about exams (these feelings are natural), which is why it is important that they experience this before the summer, so they can develop ways of dealing with the stress that comes with exams.

As you know, attendance is a core focus for us and many schools at present. The Department of Education has launched a national strategy for schools, it is important that, as a school, we put this into our local context. Before the pandemic, the 2018/2019 Charters' overall school attendance was 94.4% last academic year; it was 91.6%. We want to work with you and your children to ensure that their attendance is as high as possible and move attendance back to pre-pandemic levels. Which is why we regularly communicate with you about your child's attendance, so we can work together to unpick any issues there may be, as well as celebrate high attendance.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

This half term we are focusing on supporting students to attend school even on days when they may not be feeling 100%. Many young people experience mild coughs, colds, headaches or period discomfort, and with the right support in school they are often still able to manage their day successfully. Our team in Student Services is here to help, and we want every student to feel confident coming in.

The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
