NEWSLETTER - 24 NOVEMBER

HIGHLIGHTS

As you may be aware we have an extensive student voice system in school to help us tap into the ideas of the students to help us have a better school and to listen to any concerns they may have.  This week saw two examples of student voices being acted on in school, so I would like to thank all the students who took part in the development of the ideas.  Last year older students were very receptive to a series of talks given by Peter Radford on sexism and misogyny and felt that it would be a positive step to introduce these issues lower down the school, as they felt that these views and use of languages happen lower down the school as well.  As a result this week we had a production led by a leading school theatre group tackle these issues and present to Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9.  More details can be found below.

In addition to this on Friday Peter Tatchell, a leading Human Rights and LGBTQI activist delivered a talk to Year 12.  He focussed on young people being change-makers and having the confidence to stand up for injustice.  His presentation was inspirational.  It is extremely exciting for our young people to have access to talks such as this from speakers with an international reputation.

Our highly successful Under 16 Boys football team have continued where they left off last year (you may recall they reached the quarter-finals of the Youth FA Cup) by progressing through the cup rounds, they reached the 4th Round with a home fixture coming up next.  We wish them all the best and let us hope the cup run continues

CHRISTMAS WISH LISTSSIXTH FORM (4)

Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated to our Wish Lists.

Each department has put together a list of Wishes that would help to enhance the curriculum and bring the syllabus alive for their students, and we would be so grateful if you could make some of their wishes come true.

If you haven't done so already and you would like to help, please take a look at the list of Wishes.  If you would like to grant a Wish for a department, please make a donation via CAF Donate, our secure online giving platform, where we can claim an additional 25% on your donation from the Government if you are a UK taxpayer and choose to tick the Gift Aid box. Once you have done this, please email our Marketing Team so that they can order your Wish and deliver to the department in the new year.

It would be amazing to be able to receive as many wishes as possible and we might even beat last years brilliant total of £2245 which helped to enhance the resources within departments. We are so grateful for every Wish that you grant as we are extremely aware of the rising cost of living.

Those who prefer to donate via ParentPay can do so this year, as we have added the 'Wish Lists' to the site.

Thank you for all your support.

NEWSFLASH

Year 8 Emma was invited to perform at the Egham & District Music Club Young Performers Platform, which took place on Sunday, 19 November.

The only vocalist to perform, Emma first sang two pieces from her Trinity Grade 8 syllabus - 'Widmung' by Robert Schumann, and 'I'd give my life for you' from the musical Miss Saigon, composed by Claude-Michel Schoenberg. In the second half, Emma performed the modern piece, 'From the Start' by Laufey Lin Jonsdottir, and the Christmas classic, 'Santa Baby' by Tony Springer.

This was a wonderful opportunity for the young performers to demonstrate their skill in front of a live audience, and Emma represented Charters proudly.
