NEWSLETTER - 15 SEPTEMBER

THIS WEEK...

We have had our first full week back in school and thankfully the weather has returned to the seasonal norm.  It has been wonderful to see the students back in the school enjoying the facilities and their learning again.  We are now up to speed with the extracurricular programme as well as other opportunities in school, for example part of our careers support for students has seen Year 13 students taking part in a programme from Golf Futures with a workshop.  This looked at all aspects to do with the professional golf tour from marketing and public relations to sports science and sustainability. As part of this programme, the students were able to watch the opening round of the PGA tour at Wentworth on Thursday having spent Tuesday and Thursday looking at what is needed to run a major professional tour.

This week we have had year group information evenings for Year 11, Year 8 and Year 13. These are designed to give parents as much information about the year ahead as possible alongside ways that they can support their children at home.  Next week we have information evenings for Year 10 and Year 12. We would urge you to join these meetings as they provide a very useful look ahead for this academic year.

LIBYA & MOROCCO DISASTERS

As you will be aware there have been two horrendous natural disasters this week leaving thousands dead and injured and hundreds of thousands homeless.  These two events have led to families being ripped apart.  Our thoughts are with the communities impacted and any members of our school community who have relatives who have been affected.

CCTV

Over the summer we have installed more CCTV cameras around the school as well as in some classes containing computer hardware.  This step has been taken due to the increasing level of vandalism we were experiencing last year which has cost the school a great deal of money.  This has coincided with a significant investment in new computer hardware across these classrooms.

Festival Draw (Instagram Post (Square)) (63)

Rosh Hashanah is the start of the Jewish New Year which begins at sunset tonight and lasts for two days. Year 9 students learnt about the festival in Religious Studies and enjoyed apples dipped in honey to symbolise the hope of a sweet and happy year ahead. This clearly demonstrates our Character Values in action. #Curiosity

NEWSFLASH

Year 9 student Freddie won the U14 Boys Singles Central & East Tour at The Wargrave Lawn Tennis Club. Despite the heat there were some hard fought rallies especially against the no1 seed in the semi’s. His consistency and strength of serve secured the title 4-2, 4-1 in the final - Well done!

ETON ACTION FAIR

COMMUNITY POSTER PORTRAIT (1)

Saturday 16 September, 11am-4pm
Eton College

Eton College invites our local community to join us for the 50th Eton Action Fair on Saturday 16 September, 11am-4pm. Eton Action’s largest annual fundraiser has raised over £40,000 in previous years and will this year celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Entry to the Eton Action Fair is £3 for adults and £2 for children. All funds raised by ticket sales, pitch fees and the students’ stalls go to the five Eton Action charities; ABC to read, Action Cerebral Palsy, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Siobhan’s Trust and Windsor Foodshare. Each year the fair draws thousands of visitors from Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead.

There will be even more for younger children to enjoy this year, including a bouncy castle and a mini train, as well as the Ocean Express Play Bus, face painting and an inflatable assault course. 100 local charities, artisans and independent businesses will set up stalls to raise funds for their causes. The College Collections will also run tours of the Verey Gallery and Lower School, which is the oldest surviving classroom in Europe.

Held in the historic centre of Eton College, the fair will be opened in School Yard by a celebrity guest and Eton College pupils will provide games, food, raffle stalls, and musical performances.  They will be joined by performers from the local community such as dance groups, choirs, a search and rescue dog demonstration and a steel band, like that which opened the fair 50 years ago.

More information about the Eton Action Fair can be found at Eton Action Fair or our Facebook Event.

She can talk both personally and professionally and personally about the challenges of getting a diagnosis and gives practical tips and techniques for those who care for children and teenagers.
