Why Choose Charters Sixth Form?

Ofsted judged that our Sixth Form provision is 'Outstanding' during their 2023 inspection.

‘Students in the Sixth Form learn particularly well. Teachers use their impressive subject expertise to inspire students and motivate them to be curious’

Whilst in the Sixth Form, your goals will become more focused and you will be looking for opportunities to develop as an adult; Charters Sixth Form provides a welcoming and open atmosphere in which you can do just that.

We have a team of experienced Sixth Form Tutors to help you meet the many demands of Sixth Form life.  Small Tutor groups usually led by one of your A Level/BTEC subject teachers, allow your Tutor to get to know you well, providing you with effective support, advice and encouragement. You will enjoy a more interactive relationship with teaching staff who share your commitment to academic achievement.

The Common Room is the hub of Sixth Form life where students can work collaboratively at circular tables.  Sixth Form students also have access to The Durning Room; this is a supervised silent study area during school hours, however students can use the facility from 8 am to 4.30 pm in the evening.  To keep you fuelled,  the Sixth Form has its very own Café which is open every day.

TAKING THE LEAD

Throughout your two years in the Sixth Form, those who are keen to take on an active leadership role can find opportunities in both the House system and as Senior Student Leaders. There are a host of other activities in which you can become involved and we encourage our Sixth Form students to play a major part in shaping the life of the Charters community.

Our NextGen Leaders invest time in the school community and we offer many opportunities from helping at local primary schools to assisting Year 7 with their numeracy and literacy.  Sixth Form students run extra-curricular clubs for our KS3 students as well as raising funds for House charities.

OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP

We have a great relationship with Royal Holloway University London and as a Charters Sixth Form student you can make the most of every opportunity to get involved, whether that's joining the RHUL Community Action volunteers or using their extensive library facilities when working on your Extended Project Qualifications.

You will also benefit from one week of work experience in Year 12.  As a school we firmly believe work experience helps to inform your career choices, develop your relevant skills, attitudes and behaviour expected in the world of work.

Past students have also been extremely successful in completing their Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards, which can give you an edge over others when you apply for university or the world of work. Being involved in our wide and varied social action projects can also look great on your CV and give you a sense of achievement, whilst also forging those friendships which can last a lifetime.
