Happy New Year!
Paralympic Games 2012
Ten Year 12 students have just been selected to be ‘Young Games Makers’ at the Paralympic games in 2012. Their role will be to assist at the athletics events, and they will be based in the Olympic Stadium and in the Mall (for marathons and race walks). The students may be located on the field of play or behind the scenes within the athlete areas, getting up close and personal with some of the world's top athletes!
The process of selection involved the students attending an interview at London 2012's Head Office in Canary Wharf, London. The students underwent two activities testing discipline, maturity, enthusiasm, and their ability to work as a team. In addition, the team leaders (Mrs Hartwell and Miss Hilderley) had a formal interview with London 2012 officials. The students will be receiving official uniforms imminently and taking part in a test event on 8 May. We would like to congratulate all the students involved: Megan Wilson, Emily Gow, Aaron Chapman, Stephanie Kerr, Laura Gow, Joe Matchan, Olivia Marriott, Jessica Appleton, Josh Kerr and Hayley Edwards and wish them every success in carrying out such a prestigious role.
Updated Mobile Phone Policy
As most parents will be aware, Charters School has a rigorous policy concerning the use of mobile phones and other electronic communications devices on the school site. Over the past twelve months the policy has been updated to ensure that we maintain a positive and co-operative sense of community at the school. As a result of a recent increase in the amount of mobile phone confiscations, the policy has again been revised to address this issue and escalate the level of sanctions to students who repeatedly fail to follow the clear instructions given. Details of the updated policy can be found on the school website within the Behaviour Policy, please click here and turn to page 17.
