Tirabad

The school is very fortunate to have access to Tirabad, a fully resourced outdoor education centre led by experienced and qualified teaching staff. It is situated on the edge of the Crychan Forest in Powys and hosts a range of residential visits by pupils of all ages throughout the year.

The Ofsted report emphasised the respect pupils had for themselves and one another and, undoubtedly, this quality is fostered by the opportunities Tirabad offers our young people to develop a sense of responsibility, independence and the ability to work as a team member.

Pupils often highlight their visits to Tirabad as the best memory of their time at Charters. This is no surprise when they are able to experience climbing, abseiling, archery, canoeing, kayaking, caving, gorge walking, mountain biking, orienteering, not to mention washing up and cleaning!

During Year 7, there is an opportunity for pupils to visit Tirabad with their tutor groups. In addition, courses are held for other year groups throughout the year, some are simply Outdoor Pursuit courses; others might be more academic like the Year 8 Science course.

The Educational Visits Co-Coordinator, Miss S Keen,
will be happy to hear from you if you have any queries.
