The Charters School U12 girls’ netball squad had a busy week winning two tournaments in two days!
Charters School U12 girls’ netball took part in the U12 South East Berkshire Netball Tournament and having already beaten The Marist, Sunninghill and The Bulmersh School, Reading in the early stage of the competition. In the quarter finals they went on to beat Dolphin School, Hurst. They then met St Marys, Ascot in the semi finals and that win took them to the final after a closely contested match against The Abbey, Reading which went to extra time the girls won 4-2.
The next day the same squad went on the play in the U12 Berkshire SSP State Schools County Tournament at Theale Green, Reading.
Charters girls’ netball team won all 3 matches of their early matches without conceding a goal beating Reading Girls, St Bernard’s, Slough and Kennett School, Thatcham. The Charters girls went on to beat Park House School, Newbury in the quarterfinals and Maiden Erlegh School, Earley in the semi finals 2-1. By now their tiredness from the previous day had started to show and the final against St Bartholomew’s School, Newbury proved to be their hardest match. They had a shaky start and were 2-0 down (and 2 injuries) however the girls drew on all their energy and netball skills to level the match 2-2 and after playing extra time they finished 3-3 and became the joint U12 Berkshire SSP State School County Champions!
Kimberley Holt PE teacher and Netball Coach said, “I am extremely proud of the girls, despite injury and tiredness they pulled together and maintained their unbeaten record this season on consecutive days becoming U12s South East Berks and U12s County School Champions. The Charters girls played with commitment and dedication, other schools should watch out for these champions!”
