Tirabad

Tirabad is our Outdoor Education Centre in the Brecon Beacons in South Wales.  During Year 7 there will be the opportunity for all pupils to visit with their tutor group.  The images below will give you some idea of just how much the pupils enjoy themselves at Tirabad!

The school is very fortunate to have access to Tirabad, a fully resourced outdoor education centre led by experienced and qualified teaching staff. It is situated on the edge of the Crychan Forest in Powys and hosts a range of residential visits by pupils of all ages throughout the year.

The Ofsted report emphasised the respect pupils had for themselves and one another and, undoubtedly, this quality is fostered by the opportunities Tirabad offers our young people to develop a sense of responsibility, independence and the ability to work as a team member.

Pupils often highlight their visits to Tirabad as the best memory of their time at Charters. This is no surprise when they are able to experience climbing, abseiling, archery, canoeing, kayaking, caving, gorge walking, mountain biking, orienteering, not to mention washing up and cleaning!

During Year 7, there is an opportunity for pupils to visit Tirabad with their tutor groups. In addition, courses are held for other year groups throughout the year, some are simply Outdoor Pursuit courses; others might be more academic like the Year 8 Science course.  The Sixth Form have their own programme of events at Tirabad including the highly popular joint course with Addington School, Reading working on a one to one basis with their pupils.

The Tirabad Coordinator for Charters School, Mr David Marsh, will be happy to hear from you if you have any queries.
