Pictured above from left to right  are Megan Wilson, Emily Gow, Aaron Chapman, Mrs Hartwell, Miss Hilderley, Stephanie Kerr, Laura Gow, Joe Matchan and on the front row Olivia Marriott, Jessica Appleton, Josh Kerr, Hayley Edwards who have been selected as Young Games Makers for the Paralympics 2012.

These ten Year 12 pupils will be volunteers for the athletics events and will be based in the Olympic stadium and at the Mall (for marathons and race walks). The students may be located on the field of play or behind the scenes within the athlete areas, getting up close and personal with some of the world's top athletes.

The pupils were some of the many who formally applied to the PE department and won through against strong competition to be part of the select team of 10 we were allowed to put forward to the Games organisers. At an interview at London 2012's head office in Canary Wharf pupils underwent two activities testing discipline, maturity, enthusiasm and their ability to work as a team, in addition the team leaders (Mrs Hartwell and Miss Hilderley) were interviewed before the team was accepted for training as Young Games Makers. Soon the pupils will receive their official uniforms and take part in a test event on the 8th May.

Joe Matchan who is one of the Young Games Makers representing Charters school commented "this is a brilliant opportunity and I'm really enjoying being part of it. I can't wait for the Paralympics now!"
