Squash team in National Finals

Squash team in National Finals

Earlier in the month Charters School U.15 Squash Team took part in Finals Day at the prestigious National Squash Centre in Manchester.  This is the first time that Charters has reached this stage of the National Schools Trophy and reflects the commitment and practice that the team of five players and two reserves have put in since this season’s squad was formed last July.  Taking part were Luke Riches (10H), Max Ross (10R), Harry Shaw (10H), Nathanael Taylor (9H) and Salman Husein (9A).  Salman was standing in for Joe Bowden (10R), a team stalwart who very unfortunately was sick at the time.  Alex Norman (8C) became our reserve player - and went on to win an unofficial game.

Our team was well supported and cheered on by the school staff who came along:  Mr Riches, Mr Griffith and Mr Gant.   Some of them were even seen sneaking a game on the squash courts during intervals between the main events.

Four schools took part in the finals which was won by a very strong team from Cheltenham College.  As Luke Riches the team captain said “Although Charters didn’t win it has been great to get this far and be here, keeping our school well up in the national junior squash scene”.
