Safe Travel to School

Travelling by School Bus

Many students travel to school on coaches organised by the Borough Councils. Current Year 6 pupils applying for school transport to Charters for the start of Year 7 should contact their Primary School secretary for an application form. Once completed, forms should be returned either to the Primary School or to the address on the form. Unfortunately, we are not able to process these forms at Charters School. To read more about the school Bus Services please click here.  Passes must be shown to the driver as pupils board the bus. Students are expected to behave courteously on the buses and to treat others in the way in which they themselves would like to be treated.

Travelling by Bicycle

If you consider your child sufficiently road aware and able to cycle to school please complete the ‘Application to Cycle to School’ form in the back of the 'New Pupil Information' booklet. We provide bike storage during the school day but ask you to provide a strong lock and chain. All cyclists must wear a helmet and maintain their cycles in a roadworthy condition.

Travelling on foot

Whenever possible, pupils are encouraged to walk to school. This helps keep them healthy, encourages their independence and reduces traffic congestion.

Travelling by Car

If your child has to be transported to school by car please use one of the two Drop Off Zones shown on this map. This will help us to keep pedestrians safe and minimise traffic congestion. To this end, please consider lift sharing and/or dropping your child off at a safe point away from the school and allowing them to complete their journey on foot.

Travelling by Motorcycle

Applications to ride a motorcycle to school can be obtained from the school office. An application must be signed by a parent/carer and accompanied by:

  • Certificate of completion of an Approved Training Course for Motor Bicycles and Mopeds
  • Counterpart Driving Licence
  • V5C UK Registration Certificate to show who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle
  • Certificate of Motor Insurance

Motorcycles must be stored in the designated area adjacent to the Groundsman's compound.
