What is Photography A level about?

Photography – lens and light based media includes works in film (35mm), digital imaging and light sensitive materials.  Techniques and processes will be used to convey messages and create works related to other disciplines, such as web based animations, photographic images in printed journals, light projections within theatrical or architectural spaces.

Is this course for me?

Students should have a strong interest in visual media and a creative frame of mind.

Though not essential it will be a benefit if you have an ICT Key Stage 4 qualification such as DiDA/CiDA, GCSE or OCR National since film and digital imaging work will require knowledge of imaging software (photoshop).

What else do I need to know?

Organised enrichment activities including visits to galleries, guest speakers and a commitment to after school workshops are an expectation of the course.  In developing a portfolio of a suitable standard students will need to have independent research skills and to devote time to the collation and presentation of source material  as well as developing  a range of images of their own. There is a materials fee of £40.

Where could it lead?

Successful completion of the course produces a portfolio of work that could lead to A2 Art and Design, A2 Photography and ultimately an Art Foundation course.
