Connecting Classrooms is a global programme organised by the British Council that creates partnerships between clusters of schools in the UK and others around the world. These partnerships bring an international dimension to young people’s learning, to improve their knowledge and understanding of other cultures and prepare them for life and work as global citizens.
Our partnership comprises of three UK Schools:
-
Charters
-
Churchmead
-
Windsor Boys
and four Bahraini Schools:
-
Al Zallaq Intermediate (Girls)
-
Um al Qura Intermediate (Girls)
-
Yathrib Intermediate (Girls)
-
Othman Bin Afan Intermediate (Boys)
Early in the Spring term 2011, Key Stage 3 pupils were introduced to our Connecting Classrooms: Together as One project in their Citizenship lessons and were asked to design a logo for the project. This was part of a competition which was entered by students from our partner schools both here in the UK and in Bahrain. The competition saw many wonderful designs which students had clearly put a lot of thought and work into, but it was Louisa Pensa, 8S, who became the UK finalist, beating students from Churchmead and Windsor Boys. Well done Louisa and thank you to all who took part.

Launch for International Ambassadors
The next stage of the project was to search for eight student International Ambassadors, a new and exciting opportunity for students in Key Stage 3 to take the lead with the Connecting Classrooms: Together as One Project. Following on from the assemblies launching this campaign, numerous application forms were submitted and were such high quality that applicants were shortlisted for interview. After a very tough selection process the students selected for these positions were:

-
Reeve Langston
Year 8
-

- Molly Purcell
-

-

Year 9

A massive well done to these students and thank you to all of you who applied for one of these positions, there will be many opportunities available for you to become involved with this project in the future.
