What is Citizenship Studies about?
Students are encouraged to:
- communicate and articulate different views, ideas and perspectives about 21st Century issues
- advocate, negotiate, plan, make decisions and take action on things that matter in Britain today
- select, interpret, analyse and evaluate information to construct reasoned and coherent arguments, make decisions, propose alternative solutions and form conclusions;
- work with others, using problem solving and critical approaches to the issues, problems and events.
Is this course for me?
As part of the Enrichment Learning programme in year 12 the majority of students will undertake the course which can offer vital additional UCAS points to supplement the other subject choices made. Students will have one lesson a week and also a ‘Citizenship’ Curriculum Enrichment day in the subject.
What else do I need to know?
This AS Level has been designed to enable students to move through the three stages of Citizenship development to become:
- an informed citizen
- a participating citizen
- an active citizen.
These three skills help students to become more ‘well-rounded students’ and can be vital for UCAS and Job applications.
