BTEC SPORT – Mr A Hancock (Subject Leader: BTEC Sport)
The full title of this course is: BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport. This is a vocational course and is equivalent to 1 GCSE grades A*-C.
What will you study during the course?
During the course, you will study two core units called ‘Health and Fitness for Sport & Exercise’ and ‘Practical Sports’. There are two further specialist units that we will select. These are yet to be decided, but may include: Leading Sports Activities, The Sports Performer in Action or Training for Personal Fitness.
How will the course be taught?
A variety of approaches will be used. There will be some formal teaching, but there will also be lots of opportunities for you to work in groups, carry out individual research and to participate in a practical environment.
How will your work be assessed?
Each pupil will produce 3 - 4 major pieces of coursework, or portfolios, on 3 of the units that were explained earlier.
The majority of the course, 75% is internally assessed. An important aspect to consider is that one of the core units is externally assessed either online or paper based.
Each piece of coursework completed will be graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.

What other subjects go well with BTEC Sport?
The course links well with most other subjects and will build upon the skills you develop in the Arts, Humanities, Technology and the Sciences.
What about jobs?
This is a vocational course and provides an excellent preparation for any career.
Further Study
There are many opportunities open to you for further study including BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport, BTEC National Award and Certificate in Sport, ‘A’ Level Physical Education, NVQ in Teaching, Coaching and Instructing in both Football and in Tennis.
