It was touch and go as to whether or not Sports Day would go ahead as planned this year due to the inordinate amount of rain that had come down onto the detached field/athletics track over the last few weeks. However, the herculean efforts of our superb groundsman, Eric Smith, and a few days without rain saw things proceeding as normal…until the lorry transporting our fourth stand got stuck in the field! All’s well that ends well, though, as the lorry was pulled out and Sports Day went ahead albeit minus one of our spectator stands.
With a sunny day and an enthusiastic crowd, decked out in House colours, we were treated to a host of excellent athletic performances from Years 7 to 10. As ever the staff relay and the House mascots' 50 metre dash were highlights and there were several notable performances and school records broken.
The day was a great success due to the commitment and good humour of the athletes and spectators and reflected well on the school. The main credit for this lies with our outstanding PE team who worked so hard before, during and after the day superbly led by Mrs Hartwell.
