Improvements will include an extended Bodyzone with a 60 - station health suite, a large air-conditioned dance studio, upgraded, spacious male changing room, a referees room, a sports hall viewing area, improved reception with refreshements, extended studio.

External work will be done until the summer school holidays, when the internal work will be undertaken. All the time, disruption to Leisure Centre users will be minimalised and completion will before the start of the Autumn term.The project is being financed by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, toether with Section 106 contributions from local housing developments.

As a result, it is agreed that from September 2013, girls will not wear a school tie. The girls’ winter uniform will be a long sleeved plain white revere collared blouse worn under a school blazer with the optional addition of a school crested jumper. The existing summer uniform will remain unchanged; however, girls can choose to wear their short sleeved crested blouse under a school blazer, again with the optional addition of a school crested jumper, before Easter. The general principle will be that a school crest must be visible all year round on either a blazer, jumper or blouse. The boys’ uniform remains unchanged.

“Performing in 'Off the Wall' has been such a fantastic experience," said year 13 student, Georgina Smith. " Being able to research and try to replicate the amazing dancing of Michael Jackson has been so much fun. The whole show has a party like feel and is so full of energy that it definitely makes for a good night out!"

Tickets for our Dance Production ‘Off the Wall’ are selling fast – only a few still available for Friday night so snap them up whilst you can! Tickets are on sale every day at second break in the Library (price £6) – the other dates are Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 February.

The whole event was a great success, and we were very pleased to see how engaged our students were in finding out more about the excellent variety of careers paths and further education opportunities on display. Next year we are hoping to grow the event even further. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Dhesi and Mrs Courage for all their hard work in organising this event.

We were delighted this week to receive three framed presentation packs of stamps and a congratulatory letter from the Royal Mail.  The stamps will be displayed in Charters School reception area. Why not have a look next time you're visiting?

Last Friday afternoon, we all enjoyed the GCSE Presentation Assembly – a lovely occasion at which we congratulated last year’s Year 11 students on their record-breaking GCSE success. Thank you once again to all the parents who supported both this event and their sons and daughters in the previous five years! – and to our talented musicians, Elizabeth Porter (cello) and Daniel Massey (electric guitar) for their two splendid musical performances during the afternoon. Grateful thanks, as ever, to Mrs Marson for her excellent organisation of the event.

   

Overall Sports Personality of the Year 2011-12

 
Despite all the time and effort put into pre-Olympic events at Charters, as well as being involved with the Games Makers at the Paralympics, Mrs Hartwell and Mrs Richardson did a magnificent job in organising the Sports Presentation Evening.

Last year’s A-Level students gained some of our best results in recent years, and so there was a real celebratory atmosphere in the Main Hall as subject prizes were given out and a range of special cups and awards were announced to unsuspecting recipients. The obvious enjoyment of each other’s successes reminded us of what a delightful year group they were. In particular, they showed great resilience and determination to achieve so well after the tragic loss of Tom Martin and some mixed results in Year 12; they truly exemplified the power of a positive mindset that Sophie spoke about as the basis of her superb sporting and academic achievements.

Rev. David Uffindell, Vicar of Sunningdale, helped students relate this traditional celebration to today's world and thanked them on behalf of the three charities who will receive the donated goods: Bracknell Food Bank, Ascot Day Centre and the London Catholic Worker Soup Kitchen.

Thank you to all parents who supported this event with their donations.

Headteachers Richard Pilgrim and Martyn Parker, proud of the achievements of their former pupil, went with Councillor Christine Bateson, to see it being painted in its new gold livery.

We are extremely proud of the achievements of all our students today. This is the third consecutive year of record-breaking results for the school. Staff and students have worked extremely hard in the run up to the examinations and they are to be congratulated in their success. Of the 247 students who sat GCSEs, 96% achieved 5 or more A*-C grades of whom 75% achieved 5 or more A*-C including English and Maths.

The vast majority of our students will be moving on to our Sixth Form to begin their “A” level courses or the wide variety of vocational courses that are available. We look forward to their continuing success.

Students were delighted with the outcome of their hard work.  Annabel Lindsay said, “I can’t believe it I got 12A*. I am so pleased and happy. It’s amazing and I can’t wait to start Sixth Form!”  

Mrs Olimpia Morrison, Director of Sixth Form said “We are really pleased with our results this year. 50% of entries were graded A*, A or B and 77% achieved A* - C. The average points score per entry is 209. This is a strong performance and is encouraging at a time when the Sixth Form at Charters continues to expand. Thanks go to all the staff who came in at 6:30 am to guide and advise students this morning. Congratulations go to students, staff and parents for an excellent performance!”

Student Elliott de Haro said, “I am so pleased with my results and I am on my way to study Economics at Bath University.”  Whilst Angela Holloway was delighted with her performance “I’m just really happy – I’m just so chuffed – I’m going to Cambridge”
