Junior Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles

Junior Vocal Group
Mixed singing group for all students in Year 7 and 8, singing arrangements, including those of pop songs and songs from musicals.  They sing at the Winter Concert and Lower School Summer Concert, as well as the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, the Year 7 Concert and various other events.  Meets Monday Second Break.

String Ensemble
The ensemble is made up of pupils from year 7-9 playing violin, viola, cello and Double Bass from grade 1 to grade 5 standard. They rehearse and perform a variety of music from Film, classical and popular repertoire. The ensemble are a regular feature at concerts throughout the year. Many of the members progress into the main school orchestra or play in both. Meets Tuesday 3 - 4pm.

Junior Orchestra
This ensemble is open to all orchestral players from Year 7-9 from grade 1 upwards. They play arrangements of film and TV themes, as well as classical and pop pieces. Many of the more advanced players are also members of the senior Orchestra. This ensemble plays in the Winter Concert, the Year 7 Concert and the Lower School Summer Concert. Meets Fridays 3-4.15pm.


Senior Vocal Ensembles

Senior Vocal Group
The biggest school choir with as many as 100 members taken from years 9 - 13.  The group performs arrangements of pop songs and songs from musicals.  They are a main feature of the Winter Concert and Upper School Spring Concert. Many members are also in either Choral Scholars or Barbershop and Chamber Choir and get the opportunity to come of the biennial Music Tour. All GCSE and A Level Music and Music Tech students are part of this ensemble. Meets Friday Second Break.

Chamber Choir
Open to all students in Years 10 - 13 who have a passion for singing.  The choir sings in four-part harmony (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass) and sings both unaccompanied and accompanied music.  They perform at the Winter Concert, the Upper School Spring Concert, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, and other local community events such as the switching on of the Sunningdale Christmas Lights. The group has toured abroad to Paris, Rome and Barcelona, they performed in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and regular collaborate out of school with other choral groups. Meets Thursday 3.15pm - 4.30pm

Choral Scholars
Girls’ Choir for students in Years 9 - 13 who are of keen singers and sings both accompanied and unaccompanied music in as many as four parts.  They sing in the Winter Concert, the Upper School Spring Concert and the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Meets Wednesday second break.

Barbershop
Boys’ Choir for students in Years 9 - 13 who are of keen singers mainly singing unaccompanied music in four parts.  They sing in all major concerts and often sing American barbershop pieces and a capella pop arrangements. Meets Thursday second break.

Senior Instrumental Ensembles

Orchestra 
The orchestra is open to students of grade 3 standard or above on any orchestral instrument. They perform a variety of music from Film, TV and Classical repertoire in the Winter Concert and the Upper School Spring Concert. Meets Wednesday 3.15pm - 4.30pm.

Jazz Band
This ensemble is a small jazz combo, which tackles a wide range of jazz music, performing to a very high standard. The group performs in the Winter Concert and the Upper School Spring Concert. The group recently provided entertainment for guests at the inaugural Founders Day Gala Dinner. Meets Tuesday second break. Please see Mr McKenna if you are interested in joining. 

Function Band 
This contemporary band is always a highlight of school concerts and events. Made up of some of the most talented rock/pop musicians, they play covers and original songs to a professional standard. The band perform at the Winter Concert and Upper School Spring Concert, as well as school functions, celebration events and out of school events, performing recently for a PiXL event to an audience of 2000 people. Meets Monday 3pm-4pm. Please see Mr Stainton if you are interested in joining. 

Guitar Scholars
This ensemble brings together the talented Classical Guitarists, and does include some younger players as well. They perform specially arranged pieces ranging from Spanish repertoire to film and pop arrangements. The ensemble performs in the Winter Concert and Upper School Spring Concert. The younger students also feature in the Year 7 Concert and lower School Summer Concert. Meets Thursday 4.15-5pm.
