After School

At the end of the school day Charters provides a safe place for young people to be after school.

From 3pm - 4pm: there are a number of sporting and non-sporting clubs open to the different year groups which students may like to join before going onto this After School club, however if there is not a suitable club open then students are welcome to start their homework with Miss MacDonnell in the Durning Room at 3pm.  There is no charge from 3pm - 4pm. In addition, a homework club operates in M9 for children in our Core Support group.

From 4pm – 5.45pm: students in Years 7-11 may pay to join the Sixth Form in the Durning Room where Miss MacDonnell will be pleased to welcome students of all year groups who wish to work quietly, with her support where required.

It is essential that parents have registered and paid for this latter element of our After School Services.  The price is £7 per day (to include a snack) and payment may be made on Your child can attend as and when they need as long as there are days in credit. Miss MacDonnell will let you know when your credit is running low.

Please let us know in advance if you are expecting your child to stay with Miss MacDonnell. You can do this by email to or by phone T: 01344 298718 any time before 2pm on the day. This will help us plan the resources needed for each session.

Comments from parents who use the service include:

My son came home last Friday from the After School Study Support brimming with confidence and so happy that he had completed his homework. As a family we had a nice clear weekend without the usual nagging! The attitude towards homework and planning has changed dramatically.  Thank you for providing this service it has made such a difference to our lives!

Firstly, a big thank you, for the superb service you offer.  Miss MacDonnell is an absolutely lovely lady and the perfect person to supervise and support our son, he is always happy and confident to go along to the After School Study Support Facility in the afternoons.  We in turn have the peace of mind and security  in the knowledge that he is safe and being supervised.
